LoAF Recordings

Released 6th April 2009

'Secular Works' is without a doubt one of the most unique albums your likely to hear all year. It is challenging and rewarding, complex but melodic, intellectual but accessible. For fans of Xiu Xiu, Dirty Projectors, The Dead Science and Sun City Girls.

Extra Life is a New York-based band led by guitarist/vocalist/composer Charlie Looker, a core member of the noise/chamber group Zs and collaborator with Dirty Projectors, John Zorn and William Parker. Formed in 2007, Extra Life combine elements of dark romantic pop, aggressive math rock, modern classical compositions and medieval vocal music.

This their debut full length cd was originally released in 2008 on Planaria Recordings to wide critical aclaim, toping many Best of and/or Strangest of 2008 lists from influential blogs such as Stereogum, Dusted Magazine and Tinymixtapes.com

The album will be released for the first tiem in Europe in April 2009 to coincide with Extra Life's first European tour that includes Primavera Sound along side My Bloody Valentine, Gang Gang Dance, Spiritualized and The Vaselines. Previous US tours have included shows with the cream of American noise makers including Carla Bozulich, the Dead Science, Excepter, Magik Markers, These Are Powers, KYP Malone (of TVOTR), Mary Halvorson, the Oh Sees and Ocrilim (Mick Barr).

'Every so often there's a record so accomplished that it makes most albums of it's type sound rdiculous, and Secular orks is one of those... Remarkable for it's scope, depth and technical accomplishment, Secular Works is a devestating recordthat has the power to change minds, if only people hear it. Don't miss out.' Dusted Magazine

'In 'Extra Life' Looker taps into a mesmerizing form of avant/rock raga, repeating word and shifting into a windswept entrancing post punk throat singing.... these are master works. The album itself is called 'Secular Works' but this stuff feels somehow religeous in it's fevour. ' Stereogum
